Women from several different households are working on a 26 msq carpet in a mud-built hut. They are friends and relatives, including 68 year old Mindalai (blue/white headscarf), 60 year old Simen Gul and 71 year old Bibi Niaz (dark blue flowered headscarf).
Normally 8 women work on the carpet, but at least one is often sick due to the difficult conditions – they suffer back and shoulder pain; various sinus/breathing issues; poor insulation (only plastic tarpaulin on the roof) and freezing cold in the winter.
The women hope that when the new carpet centre is open some may get the chance to work there in better conditions.
