World Refugee Day Art Celebration 2023

Join us on June 20th to commemorate World Refugee Day and celebrate the strength, resilience, and courage of refugees around the world through the power of art. This year, we are excited to partner with Arts Network Ottawa to host a special event at the George St. Plaza in the Byward Market.

  • Live Art Performances: Watch talented artists create meaningful pieces in real-time, inspired by the stories and experiences of refugees.
  • Musical Entertainment: Enjoy a live performance from Talal Aljaramani and Rimon Khoury from 1 PM to 2 PM.
  • Blue Ribbon Recognition: Show your support for refugees by wearing a blue ribbon, available at the event.

Meet the Artists

Allan André

Allan André is a Canadian-born multi-disciplinary artist of Haitian descent based in Ottawa, Canada. André’s work has been featured in New York, Orlando, Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal exhibits. His mural work can be seen throughout the Ottawa region.

Gaëtan Veno Joachim

Gaëtan Veno Joachim is a passionate student of art, born in Haïti and currently residing in Toronto. Through his art, he forges connections, explores new horizons, and brings forth art that sparks conversations, ignites emotions and inspires positive change.

Talal Aljaramani and Raymond Khoury

Talal Aljaramani is a Syrian musician with extensive experience in oriental music. With his background in studying oriental music at the Lebanese Conservatoire and participating in concerts with the Conservatoire Orchestra.

Raymond Khoury’s, Syrian musical talent and passion for the Derbake have allowed him to showcase his skills in various settings. His journey exemplifies the power of perseverance and pursuing one’s passions, regardless of geographical boundaries.
