The environment committee in Kigeme refugee camp consists of 10 refugees and 6 Rwandans from the local host community. Together they are tasked with environmental protection and mitigating against environmental degradation due to climate change. Since 2021, they have planted 37,438 trees and 26000 fruit trees in host community. ; Kigeme refugee camp is

the Southern Province of
Rwanda. All refugees are
Congolese.
The camp was established in
2012. 34 hectares of land were
allocated to host refugees.
MINEMA administers the camp
and is responsible for security and
protection of the refugees in
coordination with UNHCR.
