Hope Away From Home

Call for Submission

What if your creativity had the power to spread hope?

Today, more people than ever are being forced to flee their homes due to war, violence and persecution. By May 2024, over 120 million people were forcibly displaced worldwide — driven by persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations, or events seriously disturbing public order.

We are witnessing rising hostility and xenophobia with the politicization of refugees and asylum-seekers, leading to harmful consequences.

Together we must challenge this narrative and promote a more compassionate world towards refugees and people seeking safety from war, violence and persecution.

UNHCR Canada is curating a diverse collection of works that will be showcased in a digital exhibit, highlighting unique stories and perspectives.

We’re calling on artists in Canada to submit an art piece, across all mediums, that represents the power of including refugees.

What is the theme?

No one chooses to leave their homes. No one chooses to become a refugee. What would give you hope if you were forced to leave your home one day? Or what has given you hope if you are forcibly displaced?

The theme of this project is “Hope Away From Home.” This theme sheds light on the power of inclusion; for people to be part of the communities where they have found refugee. To be welcomed and accepted into the new community is an essential element for them to find hope, and to rebuild their lives. Meeting new friends, having a place to learn, reuniting with family, and finding work.
