UNHCR: Global refugee resettlement needs grow in 2024
UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, has anticipated a significant rise in global refugee resettlement needs for next year. According to the Projected Global Resettlement Needs Assessment for 2024 released today, over 2.4 million refugees will be in need of resettlement, marking a 20 per cent increase compared to 2023.

I can only echo Martin’s description of the extremely dire situation inside Sudan. Last night, I spoke with one of my Deputies, Raouf Mazou, who is currently in Sudan together with our team of 45 international and more than 200 national staff. In addition to those newly displaced, and together with UN and NGO partners, they continue to support the more than 1 million refugees from other countries that were hosted in Sudan prior to the conflict. We make progress but access continues to be difficult and many are left without support.
As humanitarian needs skyrocket in Sudan and the region, UN-backed event raises nearly US$1.5 billion
As the conflict in Sudan fuels a humanitarian catastrophe in the country and a refugee crisis beyond its borders, donors at a United Nations-backed event today announced nearly US$1.5 billion to fund life-saving relief efforts in Sudan and the region and called on parties in Sudan to immediately end the fighting.
