I\u2019m committed to defending our human rights.\u201d Thirty-year-old Ilyas Malick is a refugee from Mopti in Mali who is currently a UN Volunteer working on reporting, food distribution and income-generating activities with UNHCR in Djibo, northern Burkina Faso and the nearby Mentao refugee camp where he represents the only UNHCR presence. ; Because of rising insecurity, local populations in and around Djibo, Burkina Faso are fleeing to other areas to find safety. Consequently, schools and health posts in nearby Mentao camp for Malian refugees remain closed. Refugees in Mentao camp have expressed a wish to be relocated elsewhere, but the Government of Burkina Faso decided on 30 December 2019 that refugees were not allowed to leave Mentao, citing potential unrest and linking refugees to security concerns. I\u2019m committed to defending our human rights.\u201d Thirty-year-old Ilyas Malick is a refugee from Mopti in Mali who is currently a UN Volunteer working on reporting, food distribution and income-generating activities with UNHCR in Djibo, northern Burkina Faso and the nearby Mentao refugee camp where he represents the only UNHCR presence. ; Because of rising insecurity, local populations in and around Djibo, Burkina Faso are fleeing to other areas to find safety. Consequently, schools and health posts in nearby Mentao camp for Malian refugees remain closed. Refugees in Mentao camp have expressed a wish to be relocated elsewhere, but the Government of Burkina Faso decided on 30 December 2019 that refugees were not allowed to leave Mentao, citing potential unrest and linking refugees to security concerns.
