Four-year-old Shahad was born in a village near the city of Hama in western Syria. Her father, Yehia, is a farmer who grew wheat and barley. Before the war, Shahad and her family had the best life. Last year, fighting levelled their three-storey family home.
In June 2012, U Myint Htay and his family were forced to flee from home, within Rakhine state, as deadly inter-communal violence gripped Myanmar. They left behind their worldly possessions and a grocery business.
79 year-ld Keshar Singh Rai vividly recalls the day his life began as a refugee. It was August 1992, when he arrived in Nepal from Bhutan, along with his wife, Bhai Maya Rai, and half of their children. Their eldest sone and two married daughters did not make the journey with them - rather they chose to remain behind.
