Success Stories

Mrs. McLean made a donation to the UN Refugee Agency in 1975, when she had a bit of money available to support refugees. However, in the ensuing years, Mrs. McLean was unable to afford to make any contributions, but she still felt as though refugees deserved to be treated with dignity and respect.

UNHCR Planned Giving LogoAs a result, Mrs. McLean decided to make the UN Refugee Agency a residual beneficiary in her last will and testament, along with several other charities. When Mrs. McLean passed away in 2002, the UN Refugee Agency was notified of the bequest. Specific bequests were fulfilled for family and friends, estate fees and taxes were paid, and the remainder of the estate was divided equally (as she had wished) between the charities she chose to support.

Mrs. McLean’s legacy is that she has indeed made a significant contribution to refugees—their protection, their well being, and their eventual ability to have a place they can call home, with dignity and respect.
