How to Get Involved in Canada
When you read in the newspapers or watch on TV about the latest human displacement crisis unfolding in some deprived or conflict-ridden corner of the world, do you find yourself thinking - how can I help? UNHCR offers a simple and reliable way for people to reach out and make a real difference for those left with nothing after being forced to flee their homes. In 2013, we received over $2 million in contributions from Canadian donors, including individual citizens like yourself - it made a big difference.
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence is an international campaign that starts on 25 November, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and ends on 10 December, Human Rights Day.
If you would like to help refugees, UNHCR would like to help you organize a fundraising event in your community. Please download our Community Fundraising Handbook for ideas. After reading the handbook, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and we'll help you raise funds for refugees.
Canadian Seminars, Workshops and Events
Occasionally UNHCR, NGOs, and special interest groups in Canada host Seminars, Workshops and Events that are of concern to Canadians in the area of refugees and the issues related to their assistance and fundraising. We will provide links to information regarding those events here.
If you are interested in public speaking in order to share the stories of refugees with Canadians at your church, school, or social group, please download a free copy of our Facilitator's manual. This document, originally designed to help students speak about refugees with their peers, has some excellent information and techniques that can easily be adapted for any audience.
Leave a Lasting Gift
Consider making the UN Refugee Agency a beneficiary of your will or life insurance, or of a gift of financial securities. Contact us or your financial advisor to put yourself in the picture.
